Hydraulic Lift Box Generations
Identifying Hydraulic Lift Specs by Model Number
- First Two #s Identify the Capacity in pounds. (Ex: In Model 40948 the 40 is 4,000 lbs. In Model 101148 the 10 is 10,000 lbs.)
- Third # (& fourth in 6 digit Models) Identifies the inside Width, in Feet. (Ex: In Model 40948 the 9 is 9'. In Model 101148 the 11 is 11'.)
- Last Two Number Identify Lift/Travel Height in inches. (Ex: In Model 40948 the 48 is 48". In Model 101148 the 48 is 48".)
Identifying your Model & Special Considerations
- How to Determine the Model Year by the Box- (See pic above)
- How to Determine Capacity-
- How to Determine the Motor Year-
- How to Determine Flow Control Valve location- Located in the pump with the exception of 2010 - 2012, when it was located in the hose, itself. Consider this when changing out the hose for these 2010-2012 Models, as th e Flow Valve Controls the flow of oil back to tank.
Benefits of a Hydraulic Lift (Compared to other ShoreMaster Lifts)
- Ease
of operation
- No
cable repairs
- Fits
in smaller, tighter slips than a vertical lift
- Available
for larger capacities (4000lb; 6000lb; 8000lb; 10,000lb & 12,000lb)
- Adjustable
Bunks and Guides
- Bow
Guide system
Ideal Application
- Water depths over 4’
- Tight
boat slips
Special Considerations (Regarding space limitations, water
depth, boat, etc.)
- Water
depth needs to be at least 4’
- Installation
will require a crane
Suggested Maintenance
- Check
oil level annually. Replace as needed with Chevron Clarity ISO 32
- Flush
and Clean the screen every 2 to 3 years.
- Change oil if its dirty or if there is water in the system. To do so, remove the pump, then the tank and dump oil.
- Clean the tank and filter screen with brake cleaner. Next, flush clean, Chevron Clarity ISO 32 through hoses both ways to push out remaining, old oil.
- Check
hoses and cylinders for leaks
- Charge
and check the water in Battery
Troubleshooting (Motor and valves are, more often than not, going to be most commonly replaced.)
The Pump is replaceable, but that is not typically necessary.
If customer hears "clicking," rule out the battery first, then solenoid, then the motor before replacing the pump
- Battery- If lift is slow, or not moving, this is likely due to lack of amps to open the valves. This indicates the battery is dying. To determine, check to see if coils are energizing. If coils are not energizing, replace the battery.
- Solenoid-
- Motor- If the motor is "squealing," cleaning and flushing should remedy
- Motor Brushes- Worn Motor Brushes may be replaced. However, if brushes have melted, it's best to replace the Motor, entirely.
- Hoses- If switching from Old Style to New, adapters may be added to the back end of couplers to stay with the 3/8" hose.
- Leaking Cylinders- May be repaired.
Mill heads and have bronze scrapers installed with new seal kit. 2 ¾” x 20.
New style is available through International Fluid Power at (770) 532-0444.
Bailey International, LLC style can be purchased through Baily at (800) 800-1810.
(Old style 3 x 16; 3 x 20; 2 1/2 x 16; 2 ½ x 20 - No known match at this point.)
- Valves- May sometimes stick on some models. To reset, turn knobs in completely, then turn out 2.5 turns.
- Remote Failures- First, Change batteries. If not the batteries,
Check with Dealer for compatible remote. If not,
Board is bad. It will need to be converted to newest remote system (PN?)

(How/where would you incorporate this timeline/ information?)
Oil Air Pump cap. didn't hold fluid
2001- Freizen
2002- Early 2003
Valve allowed you to adjust speed
2003
Solid year
2004-
-Valves and couplers on back wall of box
-Motor generated moisture causes by temperature fluctuation. Remedy by drilling 3/32 hole in bottom.
-2" x 4" Aluminum block valve/ silver knob may be used to release pressure. (why/when)
-To release pressure more quickly, remove the white wire from the solenoid and turn key back & forth. This releases pressure immediately
2005-2007
-Same pump
-Red knob
-Black wiring system
2008
-Double solenoid pump
-Motor is small and can
get hot if cycled too much, may burn out brushes
-Switched to threaded
couplers for ease of use.
-Hoses attach inside the
box
-Bi-directional motor
(really not valved).
-2 solenoids to run motor
in both directions
To Replace motor:
Loosen
band clamp attached to the motor, remove 2 wires.
Use a 10mm wrench to remove 2
bolts that go through motor.
Twist in circular motion so bearing comes with it.
Pull motor out.
